Sometimes, life-changing opportunities don’t knock—they stand quietly in the corner, waiting for you to notice. That’s exactly what happened to me at a random college career fair, where I stumbled upon the world of digital marketing. Little did I know, that unassuming moment would ignite a passion that would reshape my future and open doors I never thought possible.
My Background in Storytelling
My journey didn’t start in marketing—it started behind a camera. During college in the States, I dove headfirst into the world of video production and cinematography. I spent multiple hours learning everything I could: reading books about lighting, practicing different camera angles, and studying the basics of storytelling. I wanted to create visuals that moved people, and told the stories of the people around me. I worked on weddings, real estate, music videos, sports, you name it.
When I returned home to Nassau, I put those skills to work at a local church. I created promotional videos for events and heartfelt testimonials designed to inspire others to take steps like baptism. I loved the storytelling aspect of what I was doing, but over time, I felt something shift. The passion I once had for videography wasn’t there anymore. It started to feel repetitive, and for the first time, I wondered if this was all I’d ever do. I needed something new—a challenge to reignite that fire.
How I Found Digital Marketing
At that point, I stumbled into web development and coding. Honestly, I didn’t think I was smart enough to code. I thought it was reserved for “tech geniuses.” But I was curious, so I gave it a shot. I started with online courses, learning the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Slowly but surely, I realized not only could I do it, but I actually enjoyed it. There’s something so satisfying about creating something from nothing.
That curiosity led me to take things further—I enrolled at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) to sharpen my skills. Going back to school wasn’t easy, but it reminded me that when I’m committed, there’s very little I can’t accomplish. I was learning, growing, and proving to myself that I was capable of so much more.
Then came the moment that changed everything: a career fair on campus. I showed up with one goal—find a job in IT. I wanted something in web development, and I was determined to get it. Booth after booth, I looked for opportunities, but nothing fit. Then I came across a company offering a role for a Marketing Specialist. At first glance, it felt out of my league. I didn’t know how to run an e-commerce site or set up a marketing campaign. The responsibilities sounded intimidating.
But then I remembered: I had a bachelor’s in communications, some social media experience, and a lot of determination. And if I’ve learned anything, it’s that growth happens outside your comfort zone. So, I went for it. I applied for the job, thinking, “What’s the worst that could happen?”
To my surprise, I made it through three rounds of interviews—and landed the job. It paid more than my current role at the time, and while I was excited, I was also terrified. I was stepping into a world I didn’t fully understand yet. But once I started, I was hooked. I was learning how to build marketing campaigns, analyze performance, and create structured, impactful content. Every day brought something new, and with it, a renewed sense of purpose.
My Goals for the Future
That’s how I found myself here—on a path I didn’t see coming but am so grateful for. Now, my goal is to build Creative Growth, my own digital marketing agency. This isn’t just about building a business; it’s about creating something meaningful. I want to help businesses and creatives in The Bahamas and beyond tell their stories, grow their audiences, and achieve their goals.
With every skill I’ve gained—from video production to coding to marketing—I’m building a foundation for something bigger. Creative Growth is about more than marketing; it’s about empowering brands and fostering connections. I’m excited to keep learning, to add new services, and to help others achieve their own growth in the process.
This journey has taught me that the moments we least expect often lead to the greatest opportunities. The career fair, the coding courses, the moments of doubt—they all brought me here. And I can’t wait to see what’s next.
“Everyday, create something new.”
This mantra isn’t just something I say—it’s something I live by. It’s the driving force behind my journey, and I’m committed to carrying it forward into everything I do.
